When a home has no foyer, the entryway is a behavior rather than a room. A small landing zone can still catch shoes, keys, bags, mail, and outdoor layers before they travel farther.
Design for arrivals
Observe what lands first and where it lands. Place one obvious destination close to that point: a tray for keys, a limited hook for the current bag, a shoe boundary, and a place for paper that still needs a decision. Keep the route through the door clear.
Let the living room keep more than one job
Shared living space may also be an office, dining zone, play area, or guest space. Store each activity as a complete kit when possible, and define a reset point: what has to move before the next use begins.
